Meloni-Salvini: tug of war for the presidencies of the Senate and Chamber but Giorgetti towards the Mef

The new legislature officially opens on Thursday 13 October with the inauguration of the new one Parliament (600 members in all, of which 400 in the Chamber and 200 in the Senate) and the election of new Presidents of the Senate (second state office) and of the Camera, but until the end it is tug of war between Giorgia Melons and Matteo Salvini. The most coveted seat is that of Palazzo Madama that the leader of the Brothers of Italy and premier in pectore would like to reserve for her loyal Ignazio La Russa, former vice president of the Senate. But Salvini does not give up and insists on nominating Roberto Calderoli, a veteran of Parliament. Games still open in the Chamber where the seat of President is once again contested by the Brothers of Italy, who thinks of Fabio Rampelli, and by the League which, if it fails in the Senate, would focus on the outgoing group leader Riccardo Molinari, even if weighed down by the investigation for false in the electoral lists of Moncalieri.

MELONI-SALVINI TOWARDS AGREEMENT ON ECONOMY MINISTER GIORGETTI

The test on the Presidencies of the two Chambers is the first open-field test of the new legislature of Meloni and Salvini's ability to find a mandatory agreement but it is also the antechamber of the formation of the team of the future Government, which will probably be presented in the last week of October. It is in this case that, barring last-minute surprises and barring convincing an independent technician of clear renown after Fabio Panetta's refusal, the candidacy of the current Minister of Economic Development is advanced for the key ministry of Economy (MEF), Giancarlo Giorgetti, moderate League supporter, also esteemed by the outgoing premier Mario Draghi, of whom he was one of the main collaborators, and by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. Initially Salvini didn't like it and maybe in his heart he still doesn't like it that his main internal antagonist climbed into the chair of one of the most important dicasteries but in the end the political reason and the possibility for the League to conquer a very poltronine seems to have overcome the doubts and the perplexities. It is no coincidence that Meloni, after having aspired in recent days to form a government of great personalities, including independent ones, yesterday she made up her mind to talk about an all-political government.

MELONS TOWARDS THE SQUARE ON THE KEY ARMCHAIRS OF THE NEW GOVERNMENT

The position of the Minister of Economy was and is certainly among the most delicate to fill, but the nature of the new government, on which the spotlights are turned on not only in the country but also in international chancelleries, will depend - in addition to the strategy and program that Meloni will announce when she receives the job – also from the choice of other key ministers such as that of Foreign Affairs, the Interior and Justice, on which President Mattarella's attention will be maximum. Here, however, things seem simpler: Antonio's candidacy is advancing for the Farnesina Tajani, right-hand man of Silvio Berlusconi and former President of the European Parliament, for the Viminale that of the prefect of Rome, Matteo Piantedosi, former head of Salvini's cabinet when he was Minister of the Interior, and for Justice that of the former magistrate Carlo Nordio . Paradoxically, the latest skirmishes will be on the so-called minor armchairs but that of the minor Ministry of Health is not at all, so much so that Berlusconi he would like it to be entrusted to the most faithful Lucia Ronzulli that Meloni will try to avoid until the last minute. We'll see if today's center-right summit between Meloni, Berlusconi and Salvini will iron out the differences.
