Meloni at the G20: "Devastating impact of war"

In the morning Melons delivered his first intervention among the Greats, emphasizing the “devastating impact” of the war and urging the G20 to confront "the most difficult challenges", namely the consequences of the conflict in the economic, energy and food fields.

“President Widodo – said the Premier addressing the Indonesian president who assumed the rotating presidency of the G20 -, last year in Rome no one would have thought that this would come, with the war, the food crisis and the emergency energy. But we didn't let anyone intimidate us.” “We fought back and continued to work together. Not only on energy and food, but also on many other challenges: the defense of the environment, the fight against climate change, more efficient infrastructures, quality education, healthcare for all".

“Italy, together with the EU – he added -, is intervening to face the disproportionate and disproportionate rising energy prices, to increase national production e

accelerate the diversification of supply sources. According to Meloni, “the Grain exports from Ukraine remain crucial. Italy supports the efforts of the international community to ensure that the flow of grain through the Bosphorus continues and supports other similar initiatives, such as the 'Solidarity Lanes' of the European Union”

“The war in Ukraine has certainly contributed to exacerbating the global energy crisis. But he finally put it out there the many mistakes made, at least since the beginning of the Millennium, in energy policies and in relations between producer and consumer countries. From the drama of the energy crisis – stated the Prime Minister, paradoxically, theopportunity to make the world more sustainable and build a more balanced market, in which speculators have less influence and supplier countries have fewer opportunities to use energy as a weapon against other countries”.

Speaking at the G20 working session on health ("Global health"), Meloni said that "the pandemic has shown the great fragility of our societies in the face of unexpected health crises". “A dangerous situation – she added – that we have a duty to face in a structural way, without ever giving in to the easy temptation to sacrifice freedomof our citizens in the name of protecting their health. Freedom and health go hand in hand. Because certainly, if you don't have health, freedom is useless. But in contrast, what is health without freedom?“. “Covid-19 is declining in many countries, including Italy. Thanks to the extraordinary work of the health personnel, to vaccines, to prevention, to the empowerment of citizens, life has gradually returned to normal ”, Meloni underlined.

The final statement

Chief negotiators, including representatives from Moscow, reached agreement on the final draft declaration of the Bali summit. At the G20 many of the leaders shared the draft final declaration in which condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The current historical phase “must not be one of war”, the document should state. According to various sources, the condemnation of resorting to war anduse of nuclear weapons is clear being considered "inadmissible".

The declaration will underline that it is essential to uphold international law and the multilateral system to safeguard international peace and stability as well as the search for a peaceful solution to conflicts.

Zelensky lists points for ending the war. Lavrov: “Unrealistic”

The G20 was also attended by the Ukrainian president Volodomyr Zelensky, with a speech in which he listed 10 "crucial" points to achieve peace. “nuclear security”, “food security”, and “energy security” are the top three, followed by the release of all prisoners and deportees”. The fifth point concerns “the implementation of the United Nations Charter and the restoration of theterritorial integrity of Ukraine and of the world order”. "The sixth challenge - continued Zelensky - is the withdrawal of Russian troops and the cessation of hostilities". Followed by justice and "ecocide", ie the "need to protect the environment immediately". “The next is the prevention of escalation”, the tenth “the confirmation of the end of the war”.

Russian Foreign Minister Serghei Lavrov immediately rebutted the words of the Ukrainian president, defining his proposals "unrealistic and inadequate”. Russia wants to see "concrete facts, not words" on the influence exerted by the West on Zelensky so that he agrees to negotiate, added Lavrov, who denounced how Western countries have "tried in every way to politicize,” the statement final of the G20 summit, seeking to impose language that "would imply condemnation of Russia's actions by the entire G20, including us".
