Decreases associated fraud payment cards and the use of ATM transactions is increasing, in sharp growth from 2009 to today. This was revealed by the "Statistical report on payment card fraud", compiled annually by the Treasury Department's Central Anti-Fraud Office (UCAMP), which shows that in 2014 there was a considerable increase in the total “genuine” payments, both in terms of value (+4% compared to 2013) and in terms of number (+6%).

In decline the value of fraud (transactions not recognized and therefore disputed by the card owner) on the total of genuine payments which went from 0,0195% in 2013 to 0,0189% in 2014. These are lower values ​​than those recorded, for example, in France and United Kingdom.

In 2014 there was also a substantial increase in the use of cards for payments trough Internet: + 12,9% in value , + 15,4% in number of transactions. An increase that corresponds to the increase in the incidence of the Internet channel on the total value of fraud equal to 11% and 30% in terms of value of the fraudulent. The average value of fraud across all channels, however, dropped from 177 to 151 euros. 

On the other hand, tampering with automatic withdrawals was reduced by 60% compared to the previous year, particularly in central and northern Italy. Revocations of POS agreements decreased by 8%.
