Consob inspectors and soldiers from the Guardia di Finanza were this morning in the Mediobanca offices in Milan for what a source close to the situation described to the Reuters agency "a check, a routine visit on operations". A second source confirmed that "Consob inspectors are at the Mediobanca headquarters in Milan assisted by the Gdf".
According to what Corriere.it reports, the decision to acquire documentation "was taken in relation to some possible cases of insider trading that have been reported in recent months".
The operation is worrying the markets: in the late morning the blitz by Consob halted the rally of Mediobanca stock in Piazza Affari, which after having touched 6,8 euros per share at the beginning of the session, gained around 11,30 only half a percentage point to 6,7 euros.
