Mediobanca: plan B for stake in Generali

Mediobanca has drawn up an alternative plan on its stake in Assicurazioni Generali with respect to the known one which envisages a drop from the current 13% to approximately 10%. Il Sole 24 Ore writes it, explaining that the draft project provides for "the transfer of the 13% stake to a sub-holding controlled by the bank and owned by third party investors".

The plan being examined by the CEO Alberto Nagel has the objective of maintaining the Generali asset among the main pillars in support of the banking group's results. The sub-holding, according to what has been reconstructed, could be open to the entry of new investors, but control with at least 51% would remain with Mediobanca.

“It would not even be excluded – writes the newspaper – a subsequent strengthening of the grip of the vehicle on Generali”. The solution outlined "would have garnered general consensus" among Mediobanca's key shareholders, starting with Unicredit and the Bolloré group, who would agree on the need not to waste the value of Generali. Mediobanca, consulted by Il Sole 24 Ore, did not comment.

Opening today on Piazza Affari, Generali shares gain 0,3%, to 15,60 euros, while Mediobanca shares are up 0,2%, to 8,82 euros.
