Mediobanca: investing in wine is better than in the stock market

Investing in the wine sector is 160% more profitable than investing in the financial sector. This is what emerges from an analysis of Mediobanca commissioned by Ornellaia and which also involved Censis and Liv-ex. The presentation was held at Sotheby's, on the occasion of the launch of the eighth edition of the “Ornellaia Vendemmia d'Artista” project.

You can invest in wine by buying the finest labels, but also by buying shares of listed producers in the world. At a global level – underlines the Mediobanca research – one euro invested in wine in 2001 grew to 5,4 euros at the beginning of 2016. The same investment on all world stock exchanges would instead have translated into a final capital of 1,6 euros. But above all, from the lows of the end of 2008, the same euro allocated to a portfolio of wine securities would have grown to 3,4 euros compared to the 2-2,5 euros earned on the world stock exchanges.

Again according to the Mediobanca research office, in the last decade (2005-2015), le Italian wine exports they grew in quantity (+23%), but above all in value: +84,3%. In the same period, the value of net exports of Italian manufacturing grew by 67%. This means that exports of Italian wine have exceeded those of manufacturing products by more than 17 points.
