Mediobanca leaves no room for interpretation and launches a very harsh attack on the European Central Bank, accusing it of blocking Italian banks "in a scientific way". Why? Because over the last 18 months Frankfurt has carried out data analyzes for the Agr, carried out the famous stress tests and put in place various types of supervision. At this point, the Milanese institute asks, why did Frankfurt request further information from Unicredit, Mps, Banco Popolare, Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna, Banca Popolare di Milano and Carige? Non-performing loans, Texas and Srep, would offer no foothold for further scrutiny.
According to Mediobanca experts, the European Commission's opposition to the creation of an Italian bad bank, at a time when many European partners have already created a vehicle sponsored by the Government or have provided aid for the bail out, represents a huge obstacle to the attempt by of Italy to digest 201 billion of non-performing loans.
Regulatory concerns, according to analysts, could significantly affect the stability of the entire banking system. The risk involves funding and the solvency ratio in particular, causing serious damage to the Italian M&A process in the banking sector which would have the aim of creating larger and more solid medium-sized credit institutions.
