Mediaset: Telefonica signs agreement for 56% of Canal+

The Spanish telecommunications giant has reached an agreement with Prisa to buy 56% of Canal+ and increase its stake to 78% of the pay-TV capital – Mediaset, which owns 22% of the company through Mediaset Espana, can decide whether or not to exercise its right of first refusal.

Telefonica's hands on Digital+. The Spanish telecommunications giant has reached an agreement with Prisa to raise 78% of pay TV, co-owned by Mediaset, for a sum of 725 million euros, for a total valuation of the company equal to 1,3 billion euros.

Now the ball passes to Mediaset: the group from Cologno Monzese holds 22% of Canal+ and has the possibility of exercising its pre-emption right within a couple of weeks, surpassing or tying Telefonica's offer and, in this case, splitting the pay-TV capital jointly with the Spanish group.

Meanwhile, in mid-morning, the Mediaset share dropped 0,71% in Piazza Affari. In the same minutes, the Italian price list travels around parity.
