Mediaset: we are heading towards the first red balance sheet in history

Mediaset is preparing to close the first red balance sheet in its history. According to analysts, in fact, the 2012 accounts which will be presented on Tuesday 26 March will show a loss of around 45 million euros, stable compared to the first three quarters of 2012 (45,4 million euro). What is sinking the Cologno Monzese group, as Pier Silvio Berlusconi declared in an interview with La Stampa, is the current economic situation, which has reduced "in just two years the Italian advertising market from 9 to 7 billion euros".

Advertising sales should not show signs of recovery in 2013 either, but rather should continue its downward trend. The only solution to the problems, for the Biscione, is to think about cost containment: “In three years Mediaset it will cost 450 million euros less per year than in 2011 – says Pier Silvio Berlusconi again -. We have acted on everything: structures, cost of rights, programmes, studios and stars”.

On another hot topic, that of Mediaset Premium pay-TV, still far from breaking even, Pier Silvio Berlusocni said he was optimistic, noting the slight growth in revenues and speaking of "foreign groups interested in a share of Premium".

Meanwhile, Mediaset stock lost 0,61% on the Stock Exchange in the late morning at 1,623 euros per share.
