Mediaset in Vivendi's sights: sparks in the stock market

Exchanges on the stock on the Stock Exchange are on Mediaset, which, after going through a volatility auction, gained 6,4% at the beginning of the afternoon, to 4,604 euros, recording the best rise of the Ftse Mib.

The wave of purchases was triggered by some rumors reported by the French magazine La Lettre de L'Expansion, according to which Vivendi, having set aside the hypothesis of betting on Sky, he would be evaluating the possibility of buying the Cologno Monzese group, as well as a controlling stake in EuropaCorp, a film production and distribution company. Furthermore, the French giant is already in talks with Orange to buy 80% of the online video site Dailymotion.

On May 12, the chairman Vincent Bollorè will present to the supervisory board the strategy he intends to adopt to invest the 11 billion in liquidity (gross of the dividend) resulting from the sales of Maroc Telecom, Sfr, Activevision, and Numericable.

“Mediaset would represent an interesting strategic option for Vivendi, as it would allow it to enter the Italian and Spanish television market directly,” Mediobanca analysts wrote a couple of weeks ago.

The operation could find a favorable reception from Silvio Berlusconi who, according to the magazine, would prefer to concentrate on Mondadori and publishing. For Vivendi, the purchase of Mediaset would expand Canal+'s presence in Europe.

Furthermore, this morning the title of the Alfa Romeo was supported by rumors according to which Sky Italia allegedly expressed interest in the acquisition of 100% of Mediaset Premium, the pay-TV of the Cologno Monzese group. Mediaset would have rejected the proposal, but the sovereign fund of Qatar also seems to have returned to the game.
