Mediaset: here is the plan to relaunch Premium

According to the new business plan, 2020 million more operating profits will arrive from pay television by 200, which will be relaunched with the opening up to third-party content and the possible sharing of Premium channels with other players

The Ebit of the Mediaset group will improve by 2020 million euros by 468, of which 200 will come from Mediaset Premium, which will be relaunched with the opening to third-party content and the possible sharing of Premium channels with other players. This is the most significant figure to emerge from the Alfa Romeo's new industrial plan, presented today in London.

In detail, the increase in operating profit in 2020 will be generated by five lines of action: 90 million will come from the increase in market shares in Italian advertising (from 37,4% to 39%), 45 million from the improvement mix of investments and optimization, 10 from the execution of the business plan on radio broadcasting, 123 from organizational improvements and a good 200 from the new pay-TV model.

In short, Il Biscione aims to make pay-TV "sustainable regardless of the outcome of the auctions on football rights", reads the plan. In terms of content, Premium aims to take advantage of the agreements in place with other platforms, especially over-the-top as regards series and cinema, while it will have an "opportunistic approach" to football.

During 2017, the intention is to maintain the position of publisher of "non-sports" channels by aiming for multi-platform distribution and furthermore, the separation of the technological platform from the publishing activity (that of producing TV channels) is envisaged. Furthermore, management intends to make the operating machine "leaner" with operating cost levels "significantly lower".

Furthermore, by the end of 2017, the Berlusconi family company plans to launch a new free platform, but with advertising, with the Mediaset content library of free-to-air channels usable "on demand" from various connected devices. The new platform will basically replicate Infinity's streaming model, which is paid instead.

Furthermore, the plan explains, Mediaset is open to seizing other consolidation opportunities in the radio sector to strengthen its market leadership.

During 2016, the Cologno Monzese group created RadioMediaset, a hub that brings together the stakes held in R101, Radio 105 and Virgin Radio as well as defining a partnership with Radio Montecarlo in advertising sales: the hub is the result of the acquisitions that took place in 2015 of R101 from Mondadori and the alliance with Alberto Hazan on Finelco broadcasters.
