McDonald's Italia continues to focus on made in Italy. The US group has just announced two agreements relating to two of the main ingredients of its menus: chips and chicken, which will be supplied respectively by the Italian companies Pizzoli and Amadori.
Pizzoli will supply McDonald's with the new special potato chips through an agreement that is worth around 2.000 tons on an annual basis, around 10% of the total volumes. "From today you will finally find Italian fries in our restaurants, grown in our country by Italian farmers and processed in Italy, in the Budrio plant, in the province of Bologna", comments Roberto Masi, CEO of McDonald's Italy.
"This project with McDonald's Italia is a source of pride for our company and a first step towards a collaboration that we plan to strengthen in the future", adds Nicola Pizzoli, managing director of Pizzoli Spa. "Our company, in fact, will start in the first quarter 2015 the construction in the province of Bologna of a new plant which will be the largest in Southern Europe, capable of transforming over 200.000 tons a year of potatoes from various Italian agricultural basins, with an investment of 40 million Euros”.
As for the supply of chicken, a confirmation and a raise arrives. Amadori, a leading company in the sector and supplier of McDonald's since 1996, also extends its supply to Chicken McNuggets, the chicken nuggets that are purchased by almost 80 customers every day.
An important agreement, which marks a 70% increase in the volumes supplied by the company, from 5.200 tons to 9.000 tons. By the end of 2015, all chicken served in McDonald's Italia restaurants will be supplied 100% by Amadori; a deal that puts McDonald's among the company's top three customers. The strengthening of the agreement will translate into an expansion of the production activity of the Amadori plant in Mosciano Sant'Angelo (Teramo).
