Maxxi, great architecture and the photos that tell it are back

Two events at the contemporary art museum – on 26 and 28 February – to explore the relationship between architecture, landscape and photography

Maxxi, great architecture and the photos that tell it are back

How much of an architecture can be understood through a photographic shot?

Architecture returns to the MAXXI in Rome with Objective architecture, a series of meetings that seeks to answer this question about art starting from the photographic reading of a project. The first appointment is for Thursday 28 February starting at 18 in the museum's Auditorium and aims to bring into dialogue some of the most important contemporary Italian authors capable of creating a building, a significant place for the territory and for the community, and to interpret it photographically, amplifying the perception and underlying meanings.

The cycle – in its second edition and organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture of the “Sapienza” University of Rome, the Order of Architects of Rome and the Casa dell'Architettura – is divided into four meetings which aim to investigate the link between the architecture, its designer and the photographer who portrayed it.

To alternate during the events there will be the direct testimonies of architects and photographers, moderated by the Director of Abitare Silvia Botti, and which allow us to outline unexpected interpretative paths and acquire a new awareness of the culture of the image we feed on.

In first date will take center stage lo I study it's architecture, an architecture company oriented towards research and innovation and founded in 2016 by Alessandro Cambi, Francesco Marinelli and Paolo Mezzalama, with offices in Rome, Geneva and Paris.

The event will be attended by Margherita Guccione, the director of MAXXI Architecture, Luca Ribichini president of the Casa dell'Architettura Culture Commission, moderated by Silvia Botti director of Abitare and Alessandro Cambi and Francesco Marinelli of Studio it's architecture and the photographer Francesco Mattuzzi.

On Tuesday 26 February, however, for the Libri al Maxxi cycle, starting at 18 pm, the essential role of the artist's archive will be discussed in the context of the world and the art market. In fact, more and more organizations are establishing themselves that promote conservation, management, protection and enhancement of an artist's creative and documentary heritage.

These activities have an impact on the completeness of the documentation of each artist's work as well as on the verification of their authenticity. Precisely these themes are at the center of the volume Artist Archives and Legacies: cultural memories between law and the market which offers a detailed and international analysis of the legal rules and market practices that govern the complex system of protecting the artist's production.
