Mattia Antonio Cianca was 'graduated' by ASPI, Italian Professional Sommelier Association like miglior Sommelier of Italy for 2019. The title was awarded to him by the jury of national and international experts chaired by Giuseppe Vaccarini, president of ASPI, and by the Presidents of the European Sommelier Associations, by the winners of the previous editions of the competition and by sector journalists, at the end of the final of the Competition for the Best Sommelier of Italy ASPI 2019, which took place at the Istituto Carlo Porta in Milan .

Mattia Antonio Cianca, born in Rome, lived and worked in Melbourne, where he furthered his studies, began his career as a sommelier and won the title of Best Sommelier of Australia in 2017. He returned to Italy earlier this year, currently is Sommelier at Alexander The Ancient Taste of Cortina d'Ampezzo.

In the final he surpassed 6 professional sommeliers, all from prestigious restaurants and hotels in Italy, Europe and Australia including Salvatore Castano, Sommelier at the restaurant Annabel's (London), and Michele Fazari, Sommelier al Four Seasons Hotel at Ten Trinity Square (London).

The candidates competed in the classic and surprise tests designed by ASPI to test their competence and technical preparation, the ability to decide quickly and the dexterity of execution.

On the occasion, the “Berra Moretti Foundation Award for the enhancement of beer at the table”, for displaying the most in-depth knowledge of beer and the ability to best serve and pair it, to the sommelier Salvatore Castano. 29 years old, from Giardini Naxos (Taormina), Sommelier at Annabel's in London.
