Mattarella: neutral government until December or elections in the autumn

Since there is currently no possibility of forming a political government, the President of the Republic appeals to the political forces to allow the birth of a neutral, guarantee and service government, which will remain in existence until December at the latest that M5S, Lega and Fdi they immediately rejected – Alternatively there is only the return to the vote in the autumn

Mattarella: neutral government until December or elections in the autumn

The task of the Gentiloni government is finished and now we need a new government in the fullness of its powers which, however, has not yet taken shape. Therefore either a neutral, guarantee and service government is created, with a vote of confidence in Parliament, which remains in office until the formation of a new majority and a new political government or early elections in July or October . This is the orientation expressed by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, after yet another day of consultations.

The idea of a neutral government, made up of independent personalities who will remain in office only for the time necessary for a majority and a political government to emerge and who will not present themselves in the next elections, has already been answered spades by the Five Stars but also by the League and Brothers of Italy who are already in the electoral campaign and are asking to go and vote as soon as possible, even in the summer, if that were possible. Only the Democratic Party has shown willingness to support the neutral government proposal expressed by Matterella who will probably give the job to an impartial president tomorrow or, at the latest, Wednesday morning.

The Head of State also pointed out that voting in the summer would risk further lowering citizens' participation in the voters, but not only that. The risks of an electoral vote in the very short term are also those of repeating the same result of the March 4 elections as there is no time to change the electoral law. And this applies to the political level.

But then there is also an economic and financial aspect to evaluate before taking the final decisions on the future of a legislature born badly and which risks ending up worse. And here there are two dangers: the first is that of not having the time to put in place and approve in the new Parliament a budget maneuver that avoids the VAT increase, which would have serious repercussions on the economy and above all on the popular classes . The financial risk is that inherent in the markets and in the temptation of speculation to take advantage of the weakness and bewilderment of a country without political leadership to hit it both on the stock market and above all in the forthcoming Treasury auctions.

This is why the President of the Republic does not fail to express his preference for a neutral, service and guarantee government, which will last until December at the latest. But for this to happen, it is up to the political forces to find a solution quickly. And the road is uphill.
