Matera, betting on culture

Matera Capital of Culture 2019 is an opportunity not to be missed but it is necessary to invest and make the best use of available public funds - Gentiloni and Boccia in Basilicata

Matera, betting on culture

First Paolo Gentiloni and then Vincenzo Boccia set foot in in less than a week Basilicata: in Matera the first, in Potenza the second. Opportunities for both to show Italy one Region that looks to the future and accept the challenge of culture as an economic opportunity. A sort of counterpoint to those who in the past maintained that culture doesn't eat.

Deployed here, where Matera Capital of Culture 2019 is worth 160 million euros in public investment. In the headquarters of Confindustria Potenza, Vincenzo Boccia, celebrating ten years of Confindustria Basilicata, clarified his thoughts on the development of the South.

In a phase of slight and interesting economic recovery in 2017, he said that there is no policy for the South. On the contrary, a single industrial policy must go ahead that certainly includes the South. The Minister's Industry 4.0 policy is fine calendabut it must be supported at all levels.

Strengthened by this idea, he abolished his "Mediterranean Committee of Confindustria". Five days earlier in Matera, Prime Minister Gentiloni had asked entrepreneurs to invest in this part of the country. Of having confidence in the projects that are accompanying the rebirth of areas in trouble.

The ancient city of stones projected for 2019 is a goal not to be missed. However, the planning of events must not overlook the historical criticalities and delays in services, infrastructure, the environment, youth employment and credit. A complex puzzle to be reassembled quickly, we heard from Boccia, who calls for the assumption of responsibility and certainties, including regional ones.

All the more reason – explains Pasquale lorusso, President of Confindustria Basilicata - when our companies are committed to innovation and for Matera 2019 we are inspired by Expo 2015. Boccia recalled the presence of Fiat, Eni, Poste Italiane, Comer Industries, Universities, research centres.

Gentiloni had given credit to these enterprises. A program agreement and a master plan involve other large companies for accessibility, hospitality, welfare, free time. The Matera event which involves the whole Region is observed by the authorities. You want to proceed without shadows, without being touched by the negativity of Expo 2015 resulting in government commissions.

A few weeks ago the Prefect of Matera Antonella Bellomo presented a scheme of Protocol of legality to prevent infiltration attempts by organized crime. An act of trust and protection on tenders for supplies and services that are still open.

The effects of the event, in fact, will drag on beyond 2019, at least as regards the new university campus, the modernization of the FAL Bari-Matera railway and the upgrading of the Bradanica state road. A puzzle, in fact, which must have all economic pieces in their right place.
