The EU Court upheld the Court's ruling by rejecting MasterCard's appeal: the multilateral interbank commissions applied by MasterCard in the context of the payment system are contrary to competition law as established by the European executive.

The EU Court upheld the Court's ruling by rejecting MasterCard's appeal: the multilateral interbank commissions applied by MasterCard in the context of the payment system are contrary to competition law as established by the European executive.

These fees are a fraction of the price of a payment card transaction, retained by the card issuing bank. The cost is charged to the merchants, in the more general context of the expenses invoiced to them for the use of the payment cards by the financial institution that manages their transactions.
