While waiting to understand what exactly is the danger of the new Omicron variant and how to fight it, today the European Commission will take stock of the Covid emergency and it cannot be ruled out that it will decide on new measures to contain infections from one country to another. On the table is the hypothesis of a double swab for those arriving from another country.
Internally, however, the pressure is mounting to make the use of masks mandatory again even outdoors. The president of Anci and mayor of Bari, Antonio Decaro, said that the measure was explicitly requested from the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, to give it greater binding force throughout the national territory. But this does not exclude that a step in the same direction can also be taken at the municipal level with an ordinance of the mayors. It is a road already taken in some cities such as Milan, Bologna, Florence, Bergamo, Brescia, Padua, Pesaro, Aosta, Jesolo, Viareggio, Monza and Como.
The new mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, said that the capital is also thinking about it, especially in view of the gatherings in the center for Christmas shopping, and that a decision will be made shortly.
