The exhibition of Mario Schifano's works opens on June 2 at the Gallerie d'Italia in Naples. The exhibition, edited by Luca Massimo Barbero, presents works from Intesa Sanpaolo collection, by important cultural institutions such as the Museo del Novecento in Milan , Cà Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art in Venice, as well as from national and international art galleries and private collections and with the collaboration of theMario Schifano Archive.

Mario Schifano he had begun his career in the late XNUMXs and early XNUMXs. The search for him is initially characterized by a monochrome painting and with references to his youthful work as a restorer of ancient works in the museum of Etruscan and archaeological art.

The exhibition itinerary of the exhibition at the Gallerie d'Italia in Naples

It begins with the first works, some of which come from the Luigi and Peppino Agrati Collection, today part of the artistic heritage of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group. The work Grande pittura from 1963 introduces the theme of signs, like the works dedicated to Esso, Coca Cola and urban signs.

The exhibition also presents paintings dedicated to the great Italian landscapes such as Last Autumn (1964)

At the end of this first section, some great works are presented, such as Comrades Comrades e Tableau paint pour raconter l'inquietude amoreuse de Susi which open to the section entirely dedicated to TV Landscapes, creations that reconstruct painting through the use of the camera and the emulsion of color on the canvas, re-proposing news stories, art and advertising. In the installation a series of images captured by the artist directly from the cathode ray tube, as if the space were invaded by television screens from which emerge ghostly images that evoke his masters: Giorgio De Chirico, Leonardo Da Vinci and Pablo Picasso.

On the ground floor, Il Salone Toledo, a founding work such as the Chinese Festival, over seven meters long, to then bring together in a scenographic way the last three decades of Mario Schifano's artistic production ranging from the 1986s to the XNUMXs. Among the large format works: Gaston straddling XNUMX, two important works Gigli d'acqua and Acerbo and three large contemporary canvases in which Mario
Schifano reinterprets his passion for the screen.

The exuberant vitality of Schifano's art is fully exploited in the monumental spaces of the museum in via Toledo, which confirms itself as the site of important exhibition projects, capable of contributing to the cultural vitality of one of the most loved and visited cities in the world».
