Mario Draghi is president of the ECB. The announcement made on Twitter by Herman Van Rompuy

It's finally official. Outgoing Bank of Italy governor Mario Draghi has been appointed president of the European Central Bank. That it was a matter of hours was in the air, given that Draghi had no opponents and his name had received almost unanimous approval from the European community. The succession to Jean-Claude Trichet is scheduled for the end of October.
The appointment was announced by EU President Herman Van Rompuy with a message on Twitter: "The European Council has just agreed on the appointment of Mario Draghi as new President of the European Central Bank", literally "The European Council has just found the agreement on the appointment of Mario Draghi as new president of the European Central Bank”.
