Marchionne: "The brand counts, not the headquarters"

This was stated by the CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Sergio Marchionne speaking in Washington, where he is participating in a conference on the state of health of the car market: "Nationality does not matter: the group will be global, given that it will be listed in New York , will be based in London and will be part of a Dutch company”.

Marchionne: "The brand counts, not the headquarters"

What matters are the brands, not where the company is based. "A Ferrari made in China is not a Ferrari, with all due respect to our Chinese colleagues." This was stated by the CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Sergio Marchionne speaking in Washington, where he is participating in a conference on the state of health of the American car and manufacturing market at the Brookings Institution, responding to those who asked whether Chrysler will be less American or Fiat less Italian now that the two companies are part of a single entity. Marchionne underlined that "nationality does not matter" because the group will be global, given that "it will be listed in New York, will be based in London where it has no manufacturing plants, it will be part of a Dutch company".

Meanwhile, in America, Fiat loses 14 dollars for every electric 500 sold, about 4.000 more than estimated. This was underlined by the managing director of the Lingotto, Sergio Marchionne: “I hope you don't buy it – he joked – because every time I sell one it costs me 14.000 dollars. Only Tesla makes money in this area." The 500e was launched last summer in compliance with California's zero emissions rules. The introduction of hybrid models was announced by Marchionne during the presentation of the new 2014-2018 business plan. Bringing the Fiat 500 to the USA was "one of the conditions" added Marchionne. “The Fiat 500 is an iconic car, a symbol but it will never be a mass-market car in America”.

Today at the end of the morning, the Fiat share in Piazza Affari loses 1,62% a 7,28 euro.
