Marche, luxury is good for exports from industrial districts

The footwear districts of Fermo and the leather goods districts of Tolentino are driving the fashion system of the Marches: both, albeit with different intensities (Fermo +7,1% and Tolentino +4,9%) show positive growth rates since 2010 and determine continued growth in exports and the recovery of pre-crisis export levels.

In other industrial sectors the situation is not so rosy. In the first quarter of this year, exports were held back by the districts of extractor hoods and household appliances in Fabriano (-1,8%, second consecutive quarter with a loss) and that of kitchens in Pesaro (-4,7), grappling with the international competition and a process of reorganization and production relocation. The Castelfidardo instrument district also lost turnover (-18,7%).

These data emerge from the Monitor of the Marche Districts edited by the Intesa Sanpaolo Studies and Research Service for Banca dell'Adriatico. The analysis of the geographical orientation of the Marche exports, carried out with reference to the last decade, highlights a greater vivacity in the commercial flows towards the new markets. Of these, Russia and China offer the largest contributions. During the first quarter of 2013 direct exports to the Russian market grew by 8,9% reaching 135 million, 11 million more than in the same period of the previous year.
