Maneuver, Tria in the minority: no M5S and Lega to lower 2,4%

In Italy's response letter to the EU, Di Maio and Salvini did not allow Tria to lower the deficit from 2,4% to 2,1% of GDP and demanded to see the final text of the letter before sending it to Brussels: that what will Europe say but above all what will the markets say on Monday? VIDEO.

Maneuver, Tria in the minority: no M5S and Lega to lower 2,4%

Faced with the downgrading of Italy by Moody's, the outcry of the financial markets and above all the surge in the Btp-Bund spread, and faced with the letter from the European Commission to the Government for the "unprecedented deviation" of the Italian budget with European parameters, yesterday the Minister of Economy, Giovanni Tria, once again attempted an operation of elementary wisdom.

Tria has proposed to lower the deficit/GDP ratio from 2,4 to 2,1% also in 2019 and to put it in writing in the response letter to the European Commission. But no way. the deputy prime minister of Grillino, Luigi Di Maio, immediately opposed it and the other deputy prime minister, the Northern League Matteo Salvini, followed suit.

"You can't touch 2,4%" is the mantra of a government that threatens to lead Italy to slam against the wall but so be it. Not only that, in addition to ending up in the minority, Tria was practically a police station in the sense that Di Maio and Salvini asked and obtained - without Prime Minister Conte batting an eyelid - to review the text of the letter that will be sent to Brussels before being officially fired. .

One wonders if, sooner or later, Tria won't decide to draw the consequences as he had planned to do after being disavowed when the maneuver was launched. Then it was the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who begged him not to resign but in these humiliating conditions Tria will not be able to last long.
