Maneuver, Padoan: EU letter received

"They ask us for clarifications on the central aspects of the measures and in particular the earthquake and migrants", said the minister, who however also guaranteed that there will be no changes.

The letter from Brussels to Italy has arrived. The confirmation comes from the Minister of Economy, Per Carlo Padoan: "The letter from the EU Commission has arrived, it is absolutely normal for us and the other countries that have received it. They ask us for clarifications on central aspects of the measures and in particular the earthquake and migrants".

Minister Padoan specified that the maneuver "will be maintained". The letter, explains the minister, "concerns the central part of the maneuver and that is the expenses for the earthquake and migrants which are not only Italian but European and are the main reason why the deficit in 2017 will be 2,3 percent. If they hadn't been there, it would be less than 2%. The expenses of the earthquake – he added – are absolutely monitored ”.

“A preliminary assessment of the DBP (Draft Budgetary Plan, ed.) suggests that the expected change in the structural balance in 2017, calculated on the basis of the agreed methodology, is negative – reads the letter – instead of improving by at least 0,6% of GDP, as requested by the Council on July 12, 2016".

Now, according to practice, it is granted to the Member States – in addition to Italy, six other countries are receiving a similar letter – two days to communicate their points of view on the findings.
