Il Manchester United has a new prestigious shareholder in its capital. He's the finance guru George Soros, that bought 1,9% of England's football squadron. The news spread after Soros' communication to the SEC, the American Consob.
Some analysts believe the super-financier's investment could turn out to be a good deal, as the club's revenue from TV rights to the English premier league is expected to be revised upwards. Others, on the other hand, define it as "a vain purchase", given the company's debt conditions. It is not the first time that Soros has taken an interest in the world of football.
The red devils, controlled by the American Glazer family, they listed with some uncertainty on Wall Street on August 9th. Since then, the shares have lost about $1 from the $14 set as the offering price.
Already in 2008 rumors had been circulating about an interest from the financier for As Roma, another club weighed down by excessive debt.
