Bad weather: snow in central-southern Italy, earthquake swarm in Molise

The Civil Protection has issued a new warning of adverse weather conditions – It is expected that it will continue to snow in Marche, Abruzzo and Molise up to sea level. Snow also on Basilicata and Puglia at altitudes above 100/200 meters and on Calabria and northern sectors of Sicily at altitudes above 300/400 metres.

Weather alert in the southern regions. Strong or stormy winds have hit Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily since yesterday afternoon, with storm surges along the exposed coasts. The Civil Protection Department has issued a new warning of adverse weather conditions. 

It is expected to continue to snow on Marche, Abruzzo and Molise up to sea level. Snow also on Basilicata and Puglia at altitudes above 100-200 meters and on Calabria and northern sectors of Sicily at altitudes above 300-400 metres. For today, a yellow criticality level is expected for hydrogeological risk in Abruzzo and in the coastal areas of Marche and Puglia. 

In Molisemeanwhile, in addition to the bad weather, he continues the earthquake swarm which has been affecting the Campobasso area for five days and which gave no respite last night. Yesterday evening a 4,3 magnitude quake was felt in the Region which drove people out into the streets. The tremors continued to shake the earth all night. In the meantime, it is snowing non-stop throughout the region, even at low altitudes and temperatures have dropped by about ten degrees. 

A Campobasso more than 20 centimeters of snow has accumulated and almost one hundred vehicles have been put into action to clear the streets and sidewalks. The white mantle, on the other hand, reached half a meter in the mountain areas and the temperature dropped to five/six degrees below zero. The mayors of several small municipalities have already decided to close schools for today. 

In Abruzzo the seaside cities (from Pescara to Giulianova, from Ortona to Vasto) woke up white today. In internal areas, some mayors are signing the ordinances for the closure of schools. Along the A/14 motorway, for several hours and until 9 this morning, all the toll booths in Abruzzo were closed due to the presence of snow on the road surface in the southern area of ​​Chietino. 

Similar situation on the Murgia from Bari where the snow fell abundant last night on the outskirts of Gravina in Puglia, Spinazzola and Minervino and in the Castel del Monte area. The mayor of Bitonto (Bari) has ordered the closure of schools.

Snow and rain too Calabria: on the Sila the mercury column reached -8 degrees.
