Bad weather, the Befana brings snow: up to two meters in the Alps

The truce granted by the snow in the Alps is about to end. On the day of January 6 a North Atlantic Cyclone Vortex it will hit the country with a wave of bad weather. The snowfalls will be intense in the North-West until next Tuesday. Above 1200 meters real storms are expected, with accumulations on the ground expected up to two meters.

The situation will also be critical in the days following the Epiphany. Starting from Sunday 7 January, heavy rains and storms are expected throughout the North and in Tuscany. However, temperatures will remain a few degrees above the average for the period. Even this, however, could create a danger, that of avalanches in mountainous areas. In South Tyrol, the Stelvio pass and the Solda state road were closed in some sections.

Landslide risk in Tuscany and Liguria, where the Aurelia was temporarily closed between Sestri Levante and Cavi di Lavagna, in the province of Genoa.

Problems with maritime connections with Sardinia due to strong winds.

Meanwhile in Cervinia the situation seems to be improving. After the isolation that lasted 21 hours, the Valtournen regional road was reopened. However, the lifts remained closed.

The situation in the South is the opposite. The climate will be almost spring-like: the hot sirocco winds will cause temperatures to reach 20 degrees in some cities of Sicily.
