Bad weather: viaduct collapses in Savona, high water in Venice - VIDEO

Italy is once again ravaged by bad weather. As already happened several times in the month of November, with damage and casualties from North to South, this was it yet another weekend of storms, especially in the northern regions. The area most affected on Sunday is the North-West, in particular Liguria and Piedmont: in the Alessandria area there is one victim and there is concern in the Alba area, where the Tanaro river has swollen to the point of forcing the Ferrero company to stop work shifts in factories.

The Po is in full flood and is also under close observation in the center of Turin and is on red alert between Cremona and Mantua. However, the worst situation is in the Savona area, where a section of the Turin-Savona viaduct collapsed due to a landslide. Fortunately without casualties.

To be precise, a section of the mountain came down due to the heavy rains, dragging about thirty meters from the bridge, at km 122 after the junction with the A10, about a kilometer and a half from Savona, towards Altare. Fortunately, no victims have been reported, even if fear has returned after what happened (for various reasons) at the Morandi Bridge, and there are still fears of other landslides where the hill has given way. "It is a deep landslide," said Ligurian governor Giovanni Toti, urging inland residents not to leave their homes and avoid the motorway which has been closed.

The repercussions of what happened were also felt on the Stock Exchange, where the ASTM share, a holding controlled by the Gavio family, lost 3,3%. The A6 motorway is in fact controlled by Autostrada dei Fiori which in turn is under the control of Sias (-2,76%), which will soon be incorporated by Astm.

In Liguria the situation is also critical in Albisola Superiore where the rio Basco is flooded and the A10 has been closed in two stretches due to two landslides. Liguria is still on red alert and 154 people have been evacuated throughout the region from homes between Genoa and the Savona area, in Albisola Superiore, Mallare, Savona, Varazze and, in the Imperia area, in the municipalities of Ospedaletti, Vessalico, Sanremo, Pieve di Teco and Ventimiglia. Six hundred people are isolated: only in Savona, due to a landslide, the only access road to a group of houses in a hilly area, 270 people cannot be reached. In 24 hours, in some areas of the region, a third of the average rainfall for a year fell. In three hours, 100 millimeters of rain fell in the Savona area, almost one meter and 70 centimeters of water since the beginning of October.

Concern also in the Pavia area for the flooding of the Ticino.

Back to scare even high water in Venice after that in the morning the peak stopped at 130 centimetres. According to the tide center of the municipality, a new maximum of 120 centimeters is expected on Sunday evening. The mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro has ordered the closure of the floating votive bridge, set up these days for the feast of the Madonna della Salute. The meteorological situation in Veneto is slightly improving, but the threshold levels of the rivers continue to worry. In general, on Monday the weather should improve throughout Northern Italy, and the rains will make room for the return of the sun.

Alert also in the South and above all in Campania where the Sarno river has once again overflowed in the Neapolitan area.
