Capital Mafia, 20 years in Carminati and 19 in Buzzi. But the mafia association falls

The court of Rome has condemned Salvatore Buzzi to 19 years' imprisonment at the end of the capital mafia trial, 20 years for Massimo Carminati, 11 for Luca Gramazio, former leader of the PDL in the Municipality. The charge of mafia association dropped against 19 defendants in the capital mafia trial, including the alleged bosses Carminati and Buzzi. For the former head of the Capitoline assembly Mirko Coratti (Pd) the court decided a sentence of 6 years' imprisonment. Luke Odevaine, former head of the table for migrants, was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months. Eleven years for the alleged right-hand man of Carminati, Ricardo Brugia, 10 for the former CEO of Ama Frank Panzironi. For Buzzi, Panzironi, Odevaine, Panzironi and Carminati, the perpetual ban from public office has also taken place.

Compared to the requests of the Prosecutor who had proposed 46 centuries in prison for all 5 defendants, the judges of the tenth Court presided over by Rosanna Ianniello inflicted over 250 years in prison, effectively halving the sentences. In fact, the aggravating circumstance of the mafia has fallen: the court has reclassified it as a simple association. At the time of the sentence, the mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi was also present: in fact, in the proceedings the Municipality of Rome is a civil party.

Massimo Carminati stood following the reading of the sentence which condemns him to 20 years, while Salvatore Buzzi remained seated to take notes. Both main defendants were by videoconference from prisons respectively of Parma (Carminati) and Tolmezzo (Buzzi) where they find themselves at 41 bis, the harsh regime for mafia members. In connection also Riccardo Brugia, a loyalist of Carminati, who repeatedly shook his head standing up.
