Madrid: free shopping 365 days a year

The Comunidad of Madrid, i.e. the region of the Spanish capital, has decided to give carte blanche to traders. From May 2012, shops and department stores in the Comunidad will in fact be able to keep open even on Sundays and public holidays. Shopping free, therefore, 365 days a year. For Spain, this is an absolute novelty, given that Madrid will be the first autonomy to liberalize business hours.

In short, an all-round opening that will allow for the creation of over 20 new jobs, to stimulate the region's GDP by around 1%, but which will act as a tonic not only for trade, but also for tourism and transport. A positive example that follows that of large cities such as New York and Tokyo and which has also been awaited for some time in Italy. The suggestion, for the Monti government, is that it therefore follow the path of Madrid and Spain.
