Despite a European macroeconomic scenario subjected to progressive monetary tightening, i economic data which gradually arrive from the various research institutions indicate yet another good dynamics of Italian exports in the first part of the year.

Specifically, those relating to exports of the are positive companies associated with Confindustria Veneto Est, the association that brings together the provinces of Padua, Treviso, Venice and Rovigo.

+9% for companies associated with Confindustria Est

In the first quarter of the year, in value they exceeded the data of the beginning of 9 by 2022% (+9,8% the Italian average), recording greater growth also in Emilia Romagna (+4,5%) and other European regions with a high industrial intensity such as Baden-Württemberg (+7,9%) and Auvergne Rhône Alpes (+8,6%).

The quarterly balance of foreign sales for companies in Eastern Veneto is 9,8 billion euros, the highest value ever, equal to 50,1% of regional exports (Treviso 4.130 million, +4,8%; Padua 3.431 million, +12,2%; Venice 1.720 million, +14,3%; Rovigo 481 million, +6,1%).

“In a context that is certainly not simple, of geopolitical tensions and slowing international trade, the performance of exports confirms the great capacity for reaction and adaptation of our companies. This is precisely the sense of the mission that will take us to Romania next November with the primary objective, in times of supply chain crisis and nearshoring, of identifying new partners and reliable suppliers to shorten supply chains and secure them. In addition to intercepting the opportunities opened up by the Romanian Pnrr (29,2 billion) and by the RePower EU (1,4 billion) also for Veneto companies, in strategic sectors such as energy, infrastructure, transport and logistics, mechanics, agro-industry. And also become the basis for being able to make our contribution to the reconstruction of neighboring Ukraine”, he commented Alexandra Polin, managing director of Confindustria Veneto Est for internationalisation.

Exports by 2023 should exceed 40 billion

Net of vertical falls in the second half of the year, in 2023 the export of Padua, Treviso, Venice and Rovigo should bypass the symbolic quota of 40 billion of Euro. Geographically, the European outlet market remains crucial, with Germany at the top of the ranking (1,4 billion, +7,2%), followed by France (1,3 billion, +18,6%), Spain (500 million, +8,4%) and the United Kingdom (443 million, +2,1%). Among the non-EU markets, the growth in exports to the United States, third trade partner (742 million, +6,0%), and then Turkey (+41,8%), China (+13,3%), United Arab Emirates (+35,4%) and India (+30,4 .XNUMX%).

I sectors those of machinery and equipment (2.024 million, +18,7%), textiles, clothing, leather and accessories (1.393 million, +19,4%) contributed most strongly to the stability of exports , metals and metal products (1.057 million, +5,9%) and electrical appliances (853 million, +3,9%). Also strong was the export of food and beverages (+9,6%), rubber and plastic (+2,6%), means of transport (+5,9%), computers and electronic devices (+16,4%) and petroleum products (+53%).

Vicenza in first place for per capita exports in Italy

Even in the face of the good results of the Veneto industry, however, the "freshness of the data" must be weighed carefully, since the available statistics give a snapshot of a situation in many cases linked to orders dating back to the end of last year. The latest data from Confindustria Vicenza report, in fact, that after no less than nine consecutive quarters of increases (from the first of 2021 to the first of 2023), the Berica industrial production has dropped very conspicuously. The dynamics of the overseas sales, which maintains in Vicenza the first position in the export ranking per capita of Italy.

Towards the countries of the Union, despite the slowdown of the German economy, the exports grow by 3,9% compared to the same period of the previous year. But it is towards non-EU countries that the growth in exports of companies associated with Confindustria Vicenza is once again confirmed as a driving force: the second quarter of 2023 marks a +7,5% (as revealed by the data of the 160th economic survey).

“Orders, whether they arrive or not, and our warehouses don't lie: they are the best indices of the Italian manufacturing economy because our industrial fabric is diverse and interconnected with the world like no other. This is why we always anticipate trends. We said it and it happened: in the second quarter of 2023, the industrial production of the Vicenza area fell by 3,7% compared to the same period of 2022. Various realities, even entire sectors, are suffering declines in orders that are now structural, which already started towards the end of the 2022. We now have to face, among other things, restrictive monetary policy conditions and epochal changes in the areas of labor costs, production chains, change of technologies, legislation and raw materials. On the territory of Vicenza, Veneto and also at the level of the Italian system it goes stimulated public and private research", commented Laura Dalla Vecchia, president of Confindustria Vicenza.
