Macron brings an Armenian partisan and 5 Italians to the Pantheon: it is patriotism that goes together with migrants and anti-fascism

Patriotism, respect for migrants, anti-fascism: there is all this in the gesture that French President Emmanuel Macron made yesterday by opening the doors of the Pantheon in Paris to the remains of an Armenian communist who together with 5 Italian partisans took part across the Alps in the fight against Nazi-fascism in 80 years ago

Macron brings an Armenian partisan and 5 Italians to the Pantheon: it is patriotism that goes together with migrants and anti-fascism

Yesterday's event with which the French President is not just a French event Emmanuel Macron wanted, with a choreographic and moving but highly symbolic ceremony, that in Pantheon in Paris the bodies of the Armenian communist partisan entered after 80 years Missak Manouchian and five Italian partisans who fought Nazi-fascism in France.

It is not just a French event because Macron's move is actually an act of great patriotism but of a patriotism that honors and glorifies the migrants of the time - both the tortured Armenians and the Italians - who had distinguished themselves for their courageous fight against nazifascism. It is no coincidence that Macron did not want anyone to take part in the ceremony, which kept the French glued to their televisions for hours or crowded in the streets leading to the Pantheon. Marine Le Pen which really has no title to celebrate either migrants or anti-fascism. However, it is to Macron's credit that he wanted to send a very clear signal, which was especially appreciated by the left, to say that migrants, especially in stormy times, are to all intents and purposes first-class citizens if they respect the laws and that those who have sacrificed their life to fight Nazi-fascism is entitled to a few more medals. This is the patriotism that we like and which has absolutely nothing to do with Le Pen's fake and instrumental patriotism. Macron deserves applause.

  1. Dear director
It is not said that those of the Affiche rouge” were betrayed by the French Communist Party which did not want to help them when they asked to leave Paris because they knew they were in the sights of the Germans.
I wrote it yesterday in Stefania Piazzo's Nuova Padania, but in France it has been known for years, thanks to courageous investigative journalism.
    Kind regards Roberto Gremo
