Macron says no to Valls: "We are not running him"

He tried, but was rejected. Former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, will not be a candidate in the political elections of 11 and 18 June on the lists of Republic on the move, the party of new president Emmanuel Macron.

Just two days after the outcome of the presidential ballot, Valls had announced his farewell to the Socialist Party and his intention to run in the next electoral round under the insignia of the new number one of the Elysée.

But “at the moment the investiture request of Manuel Valls does not meet the criteria for acceptance”, explained Jean-Paul Delevoye, a former neo-Gaullist appointed by République en marche to draw up the candidacies for the legislatures.

“We had already indicated a candidate for the Essonne constituency,” Delavoye argued in an interview with Europe 1, adding that the movement has no intention of "recycling" outgoing politicians.

Previously, the spokesman for En Marche, Benjamin Griveaux, had already spoken clearly: “The rule is the same for everyone: first you have to present your candidacy. No one can claim the investiture if the commission has not decided beforehand”.

The complete list of candidates invested for the République en marche! will be announced tomorrow.
