With only 30 and 936 votes out of 37 and 442 voters, Luigi Di Maio was, as expected, crowned prime minister candidate and new leader of the 5 Star Movement at the Rimini event at the end of the farcical online consultation which opposed him to seven dwarfs, that is, seven improbable rivals invented at the last moment who have collected a handful of votes.
An abysmal difference - many observers have noted - compared to the primaries of the Democratic Party, where Matteo Renzi was re-elected secretary with almost 2 million votes and after a close internal battle with the minister Orlando and the Governor of Puglia Emiliano. But political forces are not all the same and the rules of internal democracy also vary.
As a result of the new and disputed internal rules, Di Maio as well as candidate for prime minister automatically becomes the political leader of the Movement after Beppe Grillo ("But I'm not leaving, I have M5S in my DNA") has formally taken a step back. But the head of the Orthodox, Roberto Fico, does not accept it and says with a bad face to Di Maio: "You are the candidate for prime minister but not the head of M5S".
