M5S: Grillo returns with Farage but pays the penalty

"We will dictate the conditions": this is how UKIP accepts the return of the pentastellati after the veto arrived by the European liberals

M5S: Grillo returns with Farage but pays the penalty

Now that the melodrama is consummated and that the liberals of the Alde said no at M5S, Grillo returns home to Farage. "We will continue to work together in the EFDD group": said the president of the group in the European Parliament Nigel Farage during the meeting with the pentastellati MEPs to take stock. During the meeting, Farage reportedly let it be known that he had "a telephone discussion" with Beppe Grillo. "I am happy to say - underlined Farage - that all the differences with Beppe Grillo's movement have been resolved amicably". However, the M5S comes out with broken bones and a reduced weight in commissions.

The formal exit of the 17 M5S MEPs from the EFDD group would have led to the loss of personnel for the grillini (about twenty group officials), the exclusion of access to positions in the parliamentary commissions and the power to influence the main dossiers . At the same time, the exit of the pentastellati would have seriously jeopardized the very existence of the EFDD group, currently made up of 44 parliamentarians. Without the 17 Italians, only 27 would have remained: just two more than the minimum limit of 25 (representing seven different nationalities) admitted in the European Parliament for the constitution of a parliamentary group.
