Lusi, Follini will propose the arrest in the Senate: no to impunity

The Senate Immunity Committee has authorized the request for the arrest of the Roman prosecutors against the former treasurer of the Margherita, Luigi Lusi.

Thirteen senators rejected Pidiellino Saro's report, which spoke of "fumus persecutionis" in the magistrates' records. Four senators voted in favor of the no arrest report, two did not participate in the vote. The final word on Lusi's future then passes to the hall of Palazzo Madama.

Lusi is accused of criminal association aimed at the embezzlement of at least 23 million euros from the coffers of the party.

In the afternoon, the president of the Senate immunity committee, Marco Follini, made public the decision to propose to the courtroom, where he will be the speaker, the yes to the request of the judiciary to arrest the former treasurer of the Margherita Luigi Lusi, following the opinion in this sense expressed this morning by the body to protect parliamentary prerogatives.

“I will propose to the Chamber to authorize the arrest of Senator Lusi. I am guarantor by ancient conviction. In this case, guaranteeing everyone's rights and guaranteeing the institutions means above all avoiding any form of impunity,” Follini said in a statement.

Last week, the Senate (thanks to the declared vote of the Pdl and to that in the shadow of the secret ballot of snipers of the Pd and the Udc) voted against the arrest of Senator De Gregorio (Pdl) requested by the judiciary. A vote strongly contested by Lega and IDV, who suspected the agreement for a vote exchange between Pd and Pdl to save both De Gregorio and Lusi.
