Lupi: "I'm calm, the government supports me"

“I have never lobbied to favor my son”, assures the minister, but some wiretaps seem to deny this.

Lupi: "I'm calm, the government supports me"

Many are calling for his resignation, but the Minister of Infrastructure, Maurizio Lupi, says he is calm. Entering the Chamber to answer the question time, he says he is calm, the government "certainly supports me", he claims, despite the fact that in the last few hours there have been rumors of the opposite sign circulating. But regardless of his relations with the Executive, Lupi will still have to face a no-confidence motion presented by Movimento 5 Stelle and Sel.

"I strongly and clearly confirm the objective that has always inspired the ministry in recent months: to guarantee a rapid and efficient implementation of the works necessary for the rapid infrastructuralization of the country and at the same time guarantee maximum transparency" he then added in answering questions to Deputies.

“I have never lobbied to favor my son – the minister guaranteed this morning -. I have not done any wrong or irresponsible gesture. If the opposite is proven, I will take note of it."

At the end of January 2014, however, the Carabinieri del Ros registered the contacts between Lupi and Ercole Incalza, the historical director of the Ministry of Public Works arrested on Monday for an alleged round of corruption linked to major works. "You have to come and see my son," said the minister in the wiretap.

In another phone call, Incalza in turn said to the entrepreneur Stefano Perotti that "there is Maurizio's son to meet". And within a few weeks Luca Lupi, the minister's son, finds work on an ENI construction site where Perotti has obtained the supervision of the works.
