Moon: India tries again. Chandrayaan 2 probe launched

The rocket of the Indian space mission has successfully taken off. On 7 September a robot will descend on the South Pole of the Moon and study the characteristics of the area. India will be the 4th country to reach the Moon.

All 14:43 (11:13 am Italian time), departed from the Indian space base Satish Dhawan Space Centre, in Sriharikota, Tamil Nadu, the rocket of the mission Chandrayaan 2.

According to the lunar program made in India, the next September 7th the probe will drop the Pragyam lander on the South Pole – never touched before – of the Moon: the robot will study the characteristics of the area for the duration of one lunar day.

In the previous Indian mission, the Chandrayaan 1, had identified the presence of water in moon rocks.

The new launch was initially scheduled for July 14 but was blocked 50 minutes after launch due to a technical problem with the launcher. If all goes according to plan, theIndia will become the fourth country to reach the Moon, after the United States, the former Soviet Union and China.
