Lufthansa in chaos: another pilot strike

Tomorrow's protest on long-haul flights will last 18 hours, from 6 on Monday to midnight on Tuesday 21 October, and will partially overlap with the 35-hour strike on short flights, between noon on the 20th and midnight the following day.

Hours of passion for Lufthansa passengers, who have to deal with around 1.450 canceled flights. This morning the pilots' union of the German airline announced a new strike for tomorrow on long-haul flights.

The protest will last 18 hours, from 6 on Monday to midnight on Tuesday 21 October, and will partially overlap with the 35-hour strike on short flights, between noon on the 20th and midnight the following day.

Tomorrow's strike is the ninth since the end of August and was called once again due to the conflict between the union and the company over pension treatment.

Under current rules, pilots can retire at 55 and receive 60% of their salary, but the European Union has given them permission to fly until they're 65. According to Lufthansa, the EU grant makes early retirement benefits obsolete.
