The EU rejects the merger between Nyse and Deutsche Börse, which is inadmissible under competition law

The European Commission has rejected plans for a merger between Nyse Euronext and Deutsche Börse, As inadmissible under the terms of the competition law (the merger between the two groups would have ended up creating a sort of monopoly on European derivatives), despite the remedies proposed by the two companies to resolve any antitrust issues and the favorable opinions given by other European and US regulatory bodies.

The announcement came today in a press release from the Deutsche Börse, while the formalization by the European Commission, through the mouth of the competition manager Joaquin Almunia, should arrive at the press conference scheduled for 12:30, in which underlined the risks posed by such a concentration in the field of European derivative products (the two exchanges together control 90% of global transactions on these products) would determine in competitive terms.

Very likely, at this point, the appeal of the two grants to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
