The collectors bought the work in 1966 at the Pierre Gallery in Stockholm, and since then the large white canvas - famous and published many times - has never been exhibited to the public.

In 1965 Lucio Fontana invited the German photographer Harry Shunk to his Milan studio, author of some of the most important artistic post-war photographs together with János Kender, united in the creative team Shunk-Kender.

Shunk made the famous photo shoot of over 20 shots following Fontana in his studio during the making of the Spatial concept now in auction.

One of the most radical gestures in the history of art of all time is documented: the cut, repeated in this work no less than 23 times.

The photographic series, from the Lichtenstein Foundation in New York, takes up the creation of the first with great suggestion and photographic quality close up on Fontana's Stanley knife, from the first cut, to the succession of cuts up to the finished work.

Fontana chose to document this work photographically, recognizing it at the peak of his creativity.

It was 1965 – the year before the prize that Fontana received at the XXXIII Venice Biennale and which consecrated him among the most important and influential artists of all time.

The work is among the most important created by the artist: one of only two white works by Fontana, with 23 immaculate cuts.

The auction will be held in London from Sotheby's the next 10 February 2015 and will offer other important opportunities for modern and contemporary art, including a beautiful painting by Dorazio etc.
