Electricity, gas and even the Internet: Enel on the field with Melita

Enel Energia and Melita have entered into a strategic alliance for the supply of services to domestic customers. An alliance that will be able to open new important scenarios in competition both on the free energy market and on that, which has now been liberalized for some time, of TLCs. In fact, with the agreement, Enel Energia will be able to guarantee not only the supply of electricity and gas but also a fiber connection with FTTH (Fiber To The Home) technology, combining the capillarity of the electricity operator (the subsidiary Enel for supplies on the free market) with Melita Italia technology.

"Thanks to this agreement - specifies the joint press release with which the two companies announced their partnership - Enel Energia offers itself as the sole point of contact for electricity, gas and fibre, allowing the inclusion of the internet service in the same invoice and making of customers the usual assistance channels, also for requests relating to the connection. Melita Italia will provide the service through high-speed Fiber To The Home technology, using only optical fiber up to homes. The first offer resulting from the collaboration, “Enel in Fibra by Melita”, will be launched on January 9, 2020”. The proposal provides for a connection of up to 1 Gigabit per second in download and 300 Megabit/s in upload at a cost of 27 euros per month.

"The high-speed connection is an enabling factor to fully exploit the innovations of the smart home and the advantages deriving from the digitization of the energy sector - comments Nicholas Lanzetta, Enel's Italy Market Manager. "Thanks to this collaboration with a partner like Melita, who has consolidated experience in the telecommunications sector, we will make available to customers a third commodity that is assuming an increasingly central value in daily activities".

"This is a very positive deal for Melita - comments Richard Ruggiero, Executive President of Melita Italia – which allows us to combine our offer, exclusively in optical fiber up to homes (Fiber To The Home), with the electricity and gas services of the main Italian player. This partnership could also be a stimulus for the further development of FTTH technology in Italy, which is constantly growing today but not yet in line with other European countries".
