Fight against Covid: stop to nightlife and soccer, shorter quarantine

Ban for amateur contact sports. Stop the administration of takeaway alcohol from 21pm, as well as gatherings outside bars, wineries, pubs and restaurants. Closing of the premises at 24. Total block to parties in public places and also to private ones. Limit to diners in restaurants. These are the new measures being studied by the Government, which however has not yet taken a definitive decision: there will first be a discussion with the Technical-Scientific Committee and then with the Regions. Among other things, another of the measures at risk, even if so far not feared, is precisely that of moving from one region to another.

In short, the government's squeeze, made necessary by the new surge in infections, is ready and also concerns other aspects: a ceiling of thirty people for guests invited to weddings, baptisms and confirmations (the measure affects celebrations, but not religious ceremonies, which other rules already fixed); more smart-working and, perhaps, a reduction in public transport capacity, so far at 80%; and finally, important news if validated this afternoon by scientists, ten days of quarantine – instead of the fourteen currently foreseen – for the close contacts of the positives.

The maximum attention is on private parties and events between relatives, according to the Ministry of Health “75% of infections occur in the family”. The dilemma of the executive is always the same: how much to slow down the engines of the country, how much to be tough to contain the contagion. Here are the latest data. There are 5.724 new patients (from 5.372 the days before) out of 133.084 swabs performed (new record). 29 dead. Three more patients in intensive care (390 in total), 250 more hospitalized (4.336 in all). The worst region is Lombardy, with 1.140 new positives, while Campania slows down a bit: 664.
