Gold climbs $2.000, silver flies, Nasdaq hits record

Gold exceeds the magic threshold of 2.000 dollars an ounce for the first time, silver flies and the Nasdaq approaches the record of 11 bps - Piazza Affari queen of Europe dragged by Telecom Italia and Intesa Sanpaolo which becomes the second European group by market capitalisation.

In a contrasted Europe and with Wall Street uncertain, the performance of Piazza Affari stands out, closing with a gain of 1,21% at 19.613 points. The banks sparked by Intesa (+5%) and by the contraction of the spread: 150 basis points (-1,56%), with a 10-year BTP rate at 0,95%.

Meanwhile, gold hits the target of 2000 dollars, indeed it exceeds it by momentum and is currently moving over 2001 dollars an ounce, also galvanizing silver, +4,7%, 25,565 dollars. 

Increasingly sparkling markets therefore despite Covid raging in the world and becoming more and more frightening, despite the concrete risk, for example, of a second wave in Belgium, despite the US-China cold war now moving to the conquest of TikTok by Microsoft. Gold does the hoarding of resources, but today Piazza Affari is also doing its part thanks to a series of blue chips in great shape. 

The lending sector is boosted by Banca Intesa, which presents a better-than-expected quarterly result and seems to be enjoying a magical moment following its victory in the offer over Ubi (+2,74%). Carlo Messina also wants to ask the ECB to deliver a double coupon to shareholders in 2021, given the need to reserve that 2020 due to Covid. "Although the first half of 2020 was a period of exceptional complexity - observes the CEO - Intesa Sanpaolo achieved the best net profit in the first half since 2008 and strengthened its balance sheet". The performance of the Turin bank invigorates the entire sector: Unicredit +3,28% and Banco Bpm +4,49%, while Mps, outside the main basket, makes a leap of 8,39%, after the loss of 5,7, 1,3% yesterday. Bper -XNUMX% goes against the trend.

However, the banks are not the only protagonists of the session. Queen of the list is Telecom +6,28%, which today presents half-yearly accounts with closed markets. Today's board of directors probably also evaluated the binding offer presented by Kkr for 38% of FiberCop, whose eventual acceptance, according to a broker consulted by Ruters, represents an important point of no return in Tim's equity story "and offers the preconditions for a future integration with OpenFiber”.

In cash Unipol +4,91%; Leonardo +4,8+%; Pirelli +4,5%. Fiat is also appreciated today, +3,93%, despite the drop in registrations and waiting to see the results of the incentives. Among the oil companies, Eni recovers 4,31% after the recent losses; Saipem +3,07%. Stocks related to health are poor: Diasorin -4,12%; Amplifon -2,57%; Recorded -2,38%. Luxury down with Moncler -2,24%.

Also in the rest of Europe a series of important quarterly reports influenced the session. In particular, Frankfurt lost 0,41%, weighed down by Bayer (-2,9%), which suffered a loss of 9,5 billion in the first six months of the year. London is flat, despite the jump of the energy major BP, +6,5%.

Fractional gains for Paris +0,28% and Madrid +0,69%. In the red Zurich -0,68%. On the currency market, the euro-dollar is flat around 1,177. Oil travels up: the Brent contract, October 2020, appreciates by 0,68% to 44,45 dollars a barrel; Texan crude was more tonic, September 2020, +1,51% to 41,63 dollars a barrel.
