London/Sotheby's, unpublished Bellotto at auction on 8 July

Among the Masterpieces of the Castle Howard Collections a magnificent View of Venice by Bellotto estimated € 3.530.000- 4.940.000

Among highlights of the Castle Howard collection stands out the View of the Grand Canal di Bernard Bellotto's (1722-1780) Venice, a view of the Grand Canal (Est. £2,500,000-3,500,000, €3.530.000-4.940.000), directly commissioned from Bellotto by the 4th Duke of Carlisle for Castle Howard on the occasion of his Grand Tour in Italy. The painting appears on the art market for the first time.

It was painted by Bellotto at the age of 17, when Bellotto was working in the studio of his uncle, Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto.

This magnificent  view the sumptuous portrait commissioned by Pompeo Batoni on the occasion of his Grand Tour in Italy is among the oldest and most important ever painted by the artist and comes directly from the heirs of Lord Monson € 2.820.000-4.230.000

A large and spectacular portrait of Pompeo Batoni depicts in full size – John, 3rd Baron Monson of Burton (1753-1806). The work being auctioned was commissioned during the Grand Tour by Lord Monson and has never left the family collections.

Painted in Rome in 1774, Batoni's portrait of Lord Monson is considered among the masterpieces of eighteenth-century portraiture and of Pompeo Batoni's oeuvre. The painting is estimated at €2.820.000-4.230.000

The auction presents a rich group of Mannerist works including the Dominic Beccafumi – one Holy Family unpublished estimated € 705.000-990.000.

By the innovative Milanese painter Fede Galizia a precious Still Life of 1607  - great Cup in crystal containing peaches, quinces and jasmine flowers,  estimated €1.700.000-2.540.000. 

An exceptional Family Interior: it is about the family of Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo which portrays his brother Lorenzo engaged in portraying his mother Cecilia, sister of the great Francesco Guardi.

This intimate portrait brings together the two most important dynasties of Venetian painters of the late eighteenth century.

The canvas has a valuation of € 3.530.000- 4.940.000
