London beats New York as the top city for female entrepreneurs. Milan in the Top 40

London beats New York and wins the title of best city in the world for women entrepreneurs. The UK city surpassed the Big Apple and San Francisco as second and third respectively in leveraging ease of access to the best talent – with 22 universities ranked among the best in the world by US News & World Report 2023 and the prestige of the London Business School – but also good conditions relating to access to crowdfunding, venture capital funds and accelerators for entrepreneurship. These are the results that emerged from Dell WE Cities Index 2023, announced by Dell Technologies and its global network DWEN (Dell Women's Entrepreneur Network), which measures the degree of attractiveness of 55 global cities based on their ability to offer optimal conditions to allow women entrepreneurs to express their full potential.

London at the top for women entrepreneurs, but there are fears of a technological deficit

Cities were judged on operational and enabling factors for women entrepreneurs, further broken down into five 'pillars'. The ability to nurture talent has proved to be London's strong point, even as business leaders have expressed concerns about the lack of progress in the area of tech, with the capital not even making the top 10 in this category, where Copenhagen took the lead.

Conversely, New York, where access to capital is even easier than London, lags behind on some key indicators, such as talent and work environment. San Francisco closes the podium, despite the fact that it can boast better access to technology than London and New York. The performances of European cities were significant, with Paris which ranks fourth globally, followed by Stockholm (5 °) Berlin (15 °) Amsterdam (16 °) Copenhagen (17 °) Dublin (23rd), e Barcelona (26th). It's Italy? It is present only with Milano in the 38th position.

Female entrepreneurship: Milan in the top 40

“Although Milan can be said to be firmly established in the ranking, with a positioning in any case in the top 40, the delay compared to particularly nearby European capitals such as Paris, Berlin or Barcelona, opens up ample space for reflection and must represent an important call to action for everyone the actors - public and private - who can contribute to a concrete improvement of the conditions for the development of female entrepreneurship", commented Philip Ligresti, vice president and general manager of Dell Technologies Italy.

“Women play a vital role in driving global economic growth. As a Dell company we are committed to promoting this through the Dell Women's Entrepreneur Network, which since 2009 aims to advance the business of women entrepreneurs through the power of technology, community and access to key resources. As a global network, DWEN supports more than 80 women entrepreneurs, who are the engines of our global economy,” concluded Ligresti.
