London, Art Color by Rosita and Ottavio Missoni

From 6 May to 4 September 2016, the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, the only museum in the United Kingdom dedicated exclusively to contemporary fashion developments, is hosting the MISSONI ART COLOR exhibition.

London, Art Color by Rosita and Ottavio Missoni

The review, curated by Luciano Caramel, Luca Missoni and Emma Zanella, organized by MA*GA, FTM and the Missoni Archive, with the support of The Woolmark Company, presents 40 works by XNUMXth-century European artists, including Gino Severini, Lucio Fontana and Sonia Delaunay – some of which are exhibited for the first time in England – who influenced the long cultural and artistic journey of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni.

The itinerary also offers a selection of looks created since 1953 by Rosita Missoni and since 1997 by Angela Missoni, as well as unpublished textile studies, paintings and tapestries by Ottavio Missoni.
“It is an important exhibition – underlines Celia Joicey, director of the Fashion and Textile Museum – which allows you to get to know the history of Missoni in depth. The marriage between fashion and art is always exciting and this exhibition highlights the important dialogue between artists, designers and post-war industry. It is a privilege for the Fashion and Textile Museum to be the first international space to host MISSONI, ART, COLOR and this demonstrates once again how London is the fashion capital and an important cultural hub”.
For her part, Emma Zanella, director of MA*GA, declares that “We are thrilled that the Museum's collection of modern art is being exhibited for the first time in the United Kingdom. Gallarate is the city where the Missonis started their business in 1953 and presenting the exhibition in London is an opportunity to explore Italian art, fashion and fabrics on an international stage.”

“This exhibition – recalls Luca Missoni, director of the Missoni Archive – illustrates the creative process through which knitwear is transformed into fashion. It is always a great challenge to rediscover the potential of our colorful heritage capable of creating unique and positive experiences. I am delighted that The Woolmark Company is our partner in this exhibition in London. Wool is an essential element of our work, to the point that it has practically become synonymous with Missoni: Missoni, knitwear, wool; wool, knits, Missoni.”
