Lombardy, end of run for Formigoni. Veltroni: "I'm not running for Parliament again"

The sack of Maroni and the League was not enough. And so it fell to the PDL secretary Angelino Alfano to announce the end of the run for Roberto Formigoni. “Enough therapeutic persistence”, Alfano said yesterday, inviting the Governor to go to the vote. Invitation immediately accepted by the now outgoing president of Lombardy, who immediately pressed the deadlines, announcing that we will vote before April (this date had been indicated by the League) and that he will be on the field in the elections “to fight like a lion”. Perspective that certainly does not excite the Carroccio. And so Maroni rejoinder: "We will choose the candidate for president in the gazebo with the primaries". After all, even in the PDL there are many who consider Celeste's candidacy somewhat worn out. As demonstrated by the numerous protests that also welcomed the latest statements by the president of Lombardy in Lecco.

Certainly the Lombard events, as well as those of Lazio, confirm the poor state of health of the Pdl as a whole, and will probably end up further fueling the controversies and the fragmentations that have already characterized the party wanted and founded by Berlusconi for some time. Finally, the acceleration towards the vote impressed by Formigoni himself in Lombardy could also speed up the times for the vote in Lazio. Here, in fact, despite the clear indications of the Minister of the Interior, the outgoing president Polverini seems to aim to buy more time.

In the centre-left, the campaign for the primaries is in full swing. Yesterday Pierluigi Bersani da Bettola, from the square where his father's petrol station was, replied to the controversy (above all by Casini) on the lack of attention that the centre-left's charter of intent dedicates to the Monti agenda. "Now is the time for our agenda for Italy", explained the secretary, who then added that he was certain that "Monti will still give his contribution for Italy". A way to remember that it was the Democratic Party that was the first to bet on the current Prime Minister, even at the cost of sacrificing legitimate political aspirations.

It should be added that even Renzi, Bersani's main competitor in the primaries, is not particularly sorry about the absence of references to Monti: “Once the fire is extinguished – the mayor of Florence said with a certain crudeness – the firefighter is no longer needed”. On the other hand, those in the Democratic Party who suffer most from Vendola's presence in the alliance complain of the lack of attention towards Monti, worried that this will make a possible alliance with the center really difficult. The ex ppi Fioroni and Walter Veltroni have expressed themselves in this sense, who also announced that he will not run again for Parliament: an alarm bell for Bindi, D'Alema and Fioroni himself, who have also been members of parliament for some time.
