Obamacare begins to work, after a problematic boot

From today about 2.1 million American citizens will have medical insurance, whereas before they had no coverage, neither public nor private. After 'Hillarycare' – when, with the Clinton presidency, his wife Hillary had tried to launch a major health reform – had failed, 'Obamacare', after an unhappy start, begins to bear fruit. The website that was supposed to allow citizens to register for subsidized health coverage went haywire months ago, with a heavy loss of image of what today remains one of the biggest reforms introduced in the US in the field of social security. But, after frantic attempts to patch up software and procedures, the site begins to work and has allowed many to reach their goal.

In December, the number of Americans who successfully used the site rose to 1,6 million, about four times the positive accesses in the previous two months. For March, 7 million new enrollments are expected, while another 3,9 million have been admitted to Medicaid (the health care program for the less well-off).

For 2016, it is estimated that there will be approximately 34 million new health care admissions (including those who meet the more generous Medicaid requirements). However, Obamacare still faces legal battles from Republicans who would like to repeal the law.
