Loacker and Cattolica together for 100% made in Italy hazelnuts

The manufacturer of the well-known wafers, thanks to the collaboration with Cattolica Assicurazioni and the University of Padua, is carrying forward the Loacker Veneto hazelnut project - Objective: the development of a supply chain for the production of 100% made in Italy hazelnuts, sustainable and with quality assurance and traceability.

Loacker, a South Tyrolean company specializing in the production of wafers and chocolate specialties, announces the partnership with Cattolica Assicurazioni, a company headed by the homonymous group which represents one of the main players in the Italian insurance market, for the planting of 30 hectares of hazelnuts on the Ca'Tron estate, one of the largest single-body agricultural estates in Italy which insurance company bought in 2012 to strengthen its identity, which has always been linked to the agricultural world and the agri-food system.

This collaboration has two objectives: on the one hand, the introduction of the hazelnut in a new area, to increase the number of areas affected by the project that Loacker started in 2011 and conceived to satisfy one's need for Italian hazelnuts, one of the fundamental raw materials for the preparation of the famous wafers. On the other hand, the activation of the project will also be an opportunity for the creation of concrete job alternatives for local farmers.

In the coming weeks, Loacker, thanks to the collaboration with Cattolica Assicurazioni and the University of Padua, will plant 30 hectares of hazelnuts within the Ca'Tron estate (which will act as a pilot estate for the Veneto region). The "Hazelnuts in Veneto" project, which has just started, has in fact registered various expressions of interest among farmers, profiling the planting of additional hectares in 2019. Hazelnuts are one of the most important raw materials for the production of Loacker products. In fact, the company has always used only 100% Italian hazelnuts toasted at home.
